The map is oriented toward south, and the emerged lands are distributed over an expanse of approximately 130°. Africa is a circumnavigable land (before the Portuguese voyages). Asia extends to Japan (Cipango), in keeping with Marco Polo’s account. Jerusalem lies at the center of the inhabited world, while the Earthly Paradise is placed outside it, as if to indicate its location at the Antipodes.
