Nature

Humans have always sought to satisfy their daily needs through the environment: this has led them to examine their surroundings carefully. They have learned to recognize animals and plants, rocks and minerals, and give each a name to identify them. They observed the habits of animals to hunt and to domesticate them, and experimented with the various properties of plants to use them in everyday life. From the soil they extracted minerals and rocks, and learned to transform them into useful objects. To discover new lands they searched for guidance in the patterns of the stars, and gave names to mountains and rivers.
