Treadmill-powered crane

This was the biggest and the most powerful of the ancient machines for raising loads. One or more men, walking inside the cage, began the rotation, causing the winding up of the ropes which held the load on the integral axis of the wheel. In addition to raising loads, the crane positioned them with precision.
